  • Points to check when purchasing!
Manuka honey containers are labeled with an expiration date and batch number. This batch number tells you the date of manufacture of the manuka honey and test results such as MGO value, allowing you to check the quality control system. We believe that quality control reduces the risk of contamination by managing all processes from beekeeping to filling into containers and sales. The world is full of questionable manuka honey. According to a 2014 announcement by the New Zealand government, there are reports that there is about five times more manuka honey on the market than the production volume of 1,700 tons. In addition, there have been problems with manuka honey being contaminated with herbicides that exceed the legal limit, but inspection results show that the rate of adulterated products is the lowest in Australia, making it the most reliable. For these reasons, we recommend purchasing manuka honey from a company where one company manages the entire process.
  • What is MGO and how is it different from UMF?
MGO (methylglyoxal) is the main component that regulates the immune system from the inside of the body, and ultimately helps protect the body from external viruses. MGO is the core component of Manuka honey's antibacterial activity and immune system promotion, and is used as an indicator of the strength of its antibacterial activity. Another well-known indicator is UMF (Unique Manuka Factor), which is used to quantify the amount of antibacterial ingredients contained in New Zealand Manuka honey.
  • Is Manuka honey with higher numbers really better?
The higher the number, the stronger the antibacterial effect, but the number is only a guideline. We think it is important to continue taking it without straining yourself according to your daily physical condition. We think that you can feel the effects of minerals and enzymes even by taking only MGO30 for beginners. We also recommend trying MGO30 and MGO850, etc., in combination with other numbers according to your physical condition and the season.
  • What is Manuka honey and how is it different from other honeys?
Many studies have shown that Manuka honey contains 100 times more methylglyoxal (MGO), a component unique to Manuka honey, than regular honey derived from nectar. In addition, it contains about 190 types of nutrients and health components, such as vitamins and minerals, and we believe that it will be effective in maintaining your daily health.
  • Isn't Manuka honey bitter?
The most distinctive feature of the bioactive manuka honey we carry from Byron, Australia is that it is not bitter. It has a rich flavor, a smooth texture that melts in your mouth, and the scent of leptospermum flowers gently spreads in your mouth. It is a sweet and delicious manuka honey that has no peculiar taste and you will never get tired of eating it every day.
  • Is there a difference between Manuka honey for pets and manuka honey for humans?
The MGO550+ manuka honey used in Manuka Pet Care is manuka honey with a higher concentration of polyphenols than manuka honey for humans. Also, for hygiene reasons, the honey is packaged in a tube-type container for pets and a light-blocking bottle for humans. Please do not use the same product for both purposes.
  • What are the benefits of feeding my pets Manuka honey?
It is rich in nutrients that are beneficial to pets, mainly vitamins, minerals, and amino acids, and is expected to be effective in maintaining their health. It is highly nutritious and easy to absorb as energy, so we think it is ideal for providing energy to active pets. It also contains a lot of gluconic acid, a type of oligosaccharide, which serves as a nutrient source for lactic acid bacteria, so we think it can suppress the growth of bad bacteria such as E. coli and regulate the intestines.
  • What should I pay special attention to when giving this to my pet?
There are three main points to note: 1) Do not feed to puppies or kittens under 1 year old. 2) Observe the appropriate amount. 3) Be careful of allergies. Babies under one year old are at risk of botulism poisoning. This is because their internal organs are not yet fully developed. Even healthy adult dogs can develop botulism if their stomachs are not feeling well, so be careful of their physical condition before giving them botulism. As with everyday eating and drinking, overeating is bad for your health. Although it has fewer calories than sugar, consuming too much sugar can lead to obesity. When incorporating it into your dog's diet, be careful about the amount you give them. If you are giving manuka honey to your dog for the first time, start with a very small amount (approximately one drop) and observe the condition. If there are no problems, continue with the appropriate amount. If you experience allergic symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting, or scratching of the skin, do not hesitate to visit a hospital immediately.
  • Is it safe for children to eat Manuka honey?
Please do not give to children under 1 year old. If ingested by infants whose digestive organs are immature, it may cause a poisoning condition called infant botulism. In addition, botulinum spores are very heat-resistant and do not die when heated, so be careful not only with manuka honey, but also with regular honey and foods containing honey.
  • What is the recommended way to eat it?
There are no specific rules for human use, but it is generally said that it is best to eat about 1 to 3 teaspoons a day. The best timing is when you eat it on an empty stomach or before going to bed. Research has shown that Manuka honey is effective against most intestinal bacteria, and it is thought that by allowing Manuka honey to remain in the empty stomach for a long time, it can promote the activity of good bacteria and exert its antibacterial and antiseptic effects for a long time. And like regular honey, you can also sprinkle it on bread or mix it into yogurt. When mixing tea with coffee instead of sugar, some nutrients are destroyed at high temperatures, so we recommend letting it cool to a drinkable temperature and mixing it in just before serving. As for Manuka Petcare, we recommend giving it once a day, with small dogs and cats at 0.5 to 1 teaspoon (4g), medium dogs at 1 to 1.5 teaspoons (7g), and large dogs at 1.5 to 2 teaspoons (10g). However, please consider these amounts as a guideline and pets can also take it once every 2 to 3 days depending on their diet and physical condition. Just like human infants, please do not give it to puppies or kittens under the age of 1, whose digestive organs have not yet developed.
  • Can't you eat with a metal spoon?
There is no reason why you should never use it, but we recommend using a wooden or ceramic spoon to avoid affecting the valuable ingredients in Manica honey.
  • How to store it?
We recommend storing it at room temperature (below 30°C) out of direct sunlight. Manuka honey is generally sensitive to heat and should not be left in an environment above 45°C for long periods of time. High temperatures can cause deterioration, which can change the texture and flavor. Conversely, if stored in a cold place for a long period of time, small white crystals may form, making the honey rough and lumpy, but this does not affect the quality. If the honey becomes too hard to eat, you can warm it in hot water to melt the crystals and lumps and return it to its original state. If you are really worried, we recommend storing it in a place that isn't too cold, such as the vegetable compartment of the refrigerator.
  • Best before?
Over time, some of the components in honey change, causing the taste to change. The approximate shelf life for regular honey is 2 to 3 years, and for Manuka honey it is around 3 to 5 years. Pure Manuka honey that has not been mixed with sugar or artificial sweeteners is believed not to spoil after the expiration date. However, after opening, please use a clean spoon when removing Manuka honey from the container. If food debris, impurities, saliva, etc. get mixed into the Manuka honey in the container, it may cause mold to grow. In addition, we recommend that you seal the container tightly to prevent it from drying out and consume it as soon as possible.
